CHARLTON: Aleta I. (Cutler) Coughlin, 74, of Charlton and formerly of Leicester, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 7th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She leaves her son, Brad J. Coughlin; her loving partner of over 15 years, Dennis Divoll; her grandchildren, Chad Coughlin, Lily Coughlin, Travis Divoll and Christopher Hedlund and great grandchildren, Ava and Max. Aleta was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Leona (Shannon) Cutler; her husband of 36 years, James J. Coughlin; her son Todd M. Coughlin and her siblings, Walter Cutler, Marsha Hogan, Dennis Cutler and Linda Brown.
Aleta lived her entire life in Leicester before moving to Charlton in recent years. Aleta graduated from Leicester High School and Mr. G's Barber School in Worcester and worked as a self-employed barber for years before starting a family. Once her family was grown, Aleta was employed by Stephen Poirer, DDS as a dental assistant, retiring after 36 years.
Aleta was a natural comedian, and she often had her friends in tears with laughter at her crazy antics. She had such an easy going personality that she could go from flannel shirts sitting around a fire pit to a designer handbag over her shoulder at the slot machines. Aleta was always ready for an adventure and together she and Jimmy spent many summers camping with their boys and vacationing at Old Orchard Beach. As adults and following Jimmy's dreams, they owned a boat moored in Onset and constructed their dream cabin in Vermont. Aleta enjoyed fishing, car shows in their 55 Chevy. Lucky to have found love again after Jimmy's passing, Aleta met Dennis Divoll and during their 15 years together, they travelled extensively with cruises to Alaska, Cuba, Greece and many of the Caribbean Islands. They also took trips to Rome, St. Maarten, and spent several months each year in their beautiful home in Melbourne, Florida. With Dennis, Aleta enjoyed motorcycle riding and trips to Foxwoods. She had a deep love of country music and she and Dennis frequented several music venues in Florida. While at their home Charlton, she loved both feeding the birds and tending her gardens with her great grandson, Max.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12th from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main St., Leicester.
