Alfred P. "Sonny" Ramos

LEICESTER: Alfred "Sonny" P. Ramos, Sr., 96, died on Friday, October 25th in Alliance Health at Baldwinville.

He leaves sons; Alfred P. Ramos, Jr. of Baltimore, MD and Richard Ramos and his partner Carol of Exeter NH, his daughter Paula J. McGeary and her husband, Thomas of Leicester, 7 grandchildren; Bryan, Erin, Kevin, Deserae, Richard, Aja and Rosemary, as well as 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his brother Leonard Ramos of New Bedford. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose (Gilmette) Ramos, who died in 2017.

He was born in New Bedford, the son of Joseph and Eva (Souza) Ramos. He graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. He received his Bachelor's degree from NorthEastern University, as well as his Masters degree from Fitchburg State University. He worked for many years as an Engineer for MIT Draper labs, Digital Equipment , and IBM in Austin, TX. He served in the Army during WWII and Korea in the Merchant Marine. He was an active member of St. Pius X Church. He was a member of the Maynard Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus #4528. He truly enjoyed country & western dancing. With many gold medals from his competitions. When given the opportunity, he loved to help students with their math skills and pass on life lessons for others to learn from.

Sonny's funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29th. from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester with Military Honors.. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 28th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
