Charlton

CHARLTON: Barry C. Fanion, 59, a lifelong resident of Charlton, died Sunday, August 23, at home.

Born in Worcester on December 31, 1966, he was the son of the late Clarence C. and Ruth E. (Pierce) Fanion.

Barry worked as an IT specialist for MAPFRE/Commerce Insurance for many years before retiring in 2022.

Barry was an avid mountain biker and hiker with a deep love of the outdoors. Over two years, he visited 28 national parks while working toward his goal of hiking every national park in the country. Closer to home, Brimfield State Forest and Chicopee State Forest were among his favorite places. Although illness kept him from completing that goal, Barry was able to see so much of the country and spend time doing what he loved most.

He was a devoted Red Sox fan and had a passion for woodworking, an interest he shared with his father. He also had a well-known love for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and just about any dessert made with peanut butter and chocolate.

Barry leaves his brother, Joseph A. Fanion and his wife, Carol, of El Paso, TX; his sister, Susan T. McConnell of Oxford; his niece, Christina Noyes and her husband, David, of Tolland, CT; his dear friend and longtime mountain biking companion, Glenn Converse of Woodstock, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James C. Fanion, and his sister, Linda M. Shiraka.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
