SPENCER: Brian J. Sweet, 63, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024.
He is survived by his children, Chelsea C. Sweet and her husband Eric of Old Town, FL; Brian J. Sweet II and his wife Shantelle of Southbridge, and Tyler N. Sweet and his wife Haley of Oxford; his parents, Deacon Harry Sweet and Marguerite (Ledoux) Sweet of Spencer; his brother, Michael Sweet of Spencer; his sister, Colleen Brunelle of Spencer; his former wife, Tamara Sweet of N. Brookfield; 9 grandchildren, Caylie, Alexander, Oliver, Annalisa, Evoli, Colt, Domenic, Tyler Jr. and Sawyer. In addition, he leaves several nieces and nephews and their children.
Brian was born in Worcester and raised in Spencer. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School, electrical program. He immediately went to work after graduation, taking a job alongside his father and brother at Holden Electric and shortly after started working for Spencer Engineering and hit the road traveling across the country doing work in 48 states. He took great pride in his work and was known for taking on the most complex jobs. You could not go for a drive in New England without him saying things like "I wired that gas station there." He loved the work he did and you could hear him singing nursery rhymes to all the toughest construction workers and always playing practical jokes. Brian was extremely proud of his time spent doing electrical work at Long View Recording Studio alongside bands like The Rolling Stones and J. Giles band.
Brian also had a great appreciation for art and history, especially local history. He would read books about local landmarks and events then take weekend drives to take a look at them in person. Without having much time for an art project he took pride in expressing himself through his cooking. He was always trying something new in the kitchen and loved to use out of the ordinary ingredients. He liked to work hard but he also liked to enjoy "his toys", the trucks, cars, motorcycles and four wheelers aplenty. He spent many Saturday mornings washing and waxing his truck only to jump back in and get it covered in mud again. Later in life he became known as "PAPA DUKES" to his many grandchildren. In one month he went from 1 to 5 when Chelsea and Brian II each had twins. He loved them all so much and was so proud to be a grandfather. He loved having them over to his house for baking and doing his little art projects. The children loved goofing off with him and watching his many tricks they will forever remember; like when he would "lose an eye" or throw on a wig and he would tell them it was "his real hair." He will be greatly missed.
