Carol A. Gatto

SPENCER: Carol A. (Mercier) Gatto, 82, died Sunday, May 19 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Frederick W. Gatto, Jr. who died in 2012. She leaves four daughters: Cathy Brennan of Santa Cruz, CA., Kelley Grenier and her husband Bryan of Spencer, Pamela Sagendorph of Spencer, Jennifer Haynes and her husband Sean of Spencer, a son Joseph Gatto of Tarpon Springs, FL., a sister, Sheila Talman of Auburn, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard W. Mercier, sisters, Lorraine Hamlin and Beverly Markey. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Raymond A. & Catherine (Harnois) Mercier.
She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester. Carol worked as an officer manager for Mercier Electric Company until retiring in 2006. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Spencer and its Women's Guild. Carol enjoyed attending weekly tai chi and lunch with her friends. She was a talented artist and avid reader. Carol loved being surrounded by her family and beloved dog Abby. She showered her grandchildren with love and attention, while creating many treasured family traditions. Her family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care provided by her nurse "the good girl" Laurie. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 22 at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer.
