Charles A. "Bud" Fahey, Sr.

d. February 21, 2025

EAST BROOKFIELD: Charles A. "Bud" Fahey, 94, of East Brookfield, died peacefully, Friday, Feb. 21st. at his home.

He leaves his wife of 73 years, Elaine E. (Parker) Fahey, his sons; Michael C. Fahey of Mililani, Hawaii, Kevin D. Fahey and his wife Sheila, Thomas C. Fahey and his wife Jennifer and Charles "Chuck" Fahey, Jr. and his wife Carol all of East Brookfield, his daughter; Bamby J. Antone and her partner Ricardo Mendez of Humble, TX, his sister; Theresa Miller and her husband Robert of Indian Trail, NC., 9 grandchildren: Jilian, Patrick, Clayton, Connor, Ryan, Cameron, Olivia, Logan, and Lily and 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers; Francis X. Fahey, Jr. and Robert Fahey.

He was born in Spencer, the son of Francis X. Fahey, Sr. and Rosalma (Boucher) Fahey and later graduated from David Prouty High School in 1949. He received a Bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College. He served his country during the Korean War with the US Air Force from 1949-1953. Bud then worked in manufacturing for 15 years prior to becoming a schoolteacher and coach at Nashoba Valley Regional Technical High School for 22 years, before his retirement in 1990. He was later inducted into the Nashoba Valley Tech Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bud was a dedicated servant to his church and community. Though he may not have known it, he had an official title at St. John's in East Brookfield. He was a Sacristan, setting up the church and the altar for Mass, lighting candles, and assisting the Altar Servers. He also served as an offertory collector and presented the offertory gifts. Bud guided and instructed visiting priests and was known to all parishioners for his warm welcomes and greetings. Before becoming physically incapable of attending, Bud never missed a Saturday Mass. He exemplified the Christian principles of generosity, community, and selflessness.

Bud was "Mr. East Brookfield," dedicating his life to his community. He was one of the founders of the Recreation Department in the 1960s, coached several youth teams, and served both on the Spencer-East Brookfield School Committee and as a volunteer firefighter for 45 years. He spent years working at the town beach, often referring to himself as the "Beach Master." Everyone who knew Bud, loved Bud. In such a small community, it would be rare to meet someone who didn't have a personal story to recall of him. The baseball field at East Brookfield Elementary was dedicated to him, named "Fahey Field," honoring his years of service to this town. He loved sports and was a certified baseball and softball umpire for 35 years and was a trainer for the David Prouty football team. In addition to this, Bud was a member of the Parks and Rec committees and served in the Honor Guard on Memorial Day for many, many years. Bud's commitment to his community is unmatched, and it would be impossible to list the extent of his involvement in the different committees, programs, and teams over the years.

Bud was also a dedicated family man, always there for his kids and grandkids. He made sure each grandchild felt special and loved in their own way. Gramp was always there to offer a ride to or from school or to the store to buy candy and was a constant at sporting events (where everyone could hear him arguing with the refs).

Bud will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
