Claire C. Scully

AUBURN - Claire C. (Mills) Scully, 97, of Auburn and former long-time Cherry Valley resident died peacefully on Wednesday, April 8th at UMass Hospital after a short illness. Claire was predeceased by her husband, Donald A. Scully, Sr. in 1995. She leaves her beloved children, Kathleen Mahoney and her husband, Daniel of Marion, Donald Scully, Jr. and his wife, Lorraine of Worcester, Patrick Scully and his wife, Mary of Auburn and Patricia Walls and her husband, Jeffrey Ducharme of Oxford; grandchildren, Daniel (Olivia) Mahoney , Meaghan Mahoney, Corissa (Corey) LaFlash, Ian Scully, Kody Scully, Jeffrey Walls and Conor Scully, great-grandsons, Riley and Cameron LaFlash. Also, family members Michael (Jennifer) Lynch and Nicholas (Katelyn) Lynch, their children and Erica (Mike) Siemaszko and their children, along with nieces and nephews. Claire was also predeceased by her sister, Irene McShera. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frederick J. and Catherine (Stenson) Mills. Claire graduated from Leicester High School and the former Salter Secretarial School. She was a buyer for Paul Revere Insurance, Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1995. Always a very social person, Claire formed many long term relationships with her colleagues at Paul Revere. A skilled athlete, she also played women’s softball for many years alongside her friend and future sister-in-law, Phyllis Scully. Claire was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a ‘camp’ mother - packing her family up throughout the summers as she and Don took the family on numerous camping trips throughout Massachusetts, New England and beyond. She loved their camping trips and the friends who traveled with them! She later followed her grandchildren’s lives avidly, attending numerous school and athletic events and could often be heard cheering them on. Claire worked out at the Paxton Tennis & Fitness Club for many years, making new friends in the pool and planning numerous outings with those friends. She participated in social activities at the Leicester Senior Center and enjoyed many years of traveling with family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 13th in the Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., Leicester. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 14th at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 1163 Main St, Leicester. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Claire’s family would like to extend a thank you to the nursing staff, particularly the PCAs at UMass Memorial Hospital - 2South for their care and compassion toward her.
