CHARLTON: David H. Johnson, Sr., 81, of Charlton, passed away, Sunday Nov. 12th. at his home following a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Linda E. (Pease) Johnson, his son; David Johnson, Jr. and his wife Iris of Charlton, his daughters; Lisa Fredette of Southbridge, Theresa Johnson of Charlton and Catherine Hobart and her husband William of Warren, 8 grandchildren; Jessica and Dale Fredette, Tessa Johnson-Borozny, Blaine Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Stephanie and Daniel Hobart and David Nicolas Johnson, 3 great grandchildren; Logan, Mary and Riley.
Dave retired from the Telegram & Gazette as the equipment maintenance manager in 2001.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Harry W. and Doris L. (Grove) Johnson and later graduated from South High School and Worcester Junior College. He was a member of the DeMolay for boys, and the Masonic Lodge. He raced sports cars at many speedways and was known as the best driver around at the time where he won numerous trophies. As the years passed, he transitioned into a passionate runner, participating in a multitude of road races across different towns. His dedication to running also brought him accolades in the form of trophies and awards.
David was a long time active member at Greenville Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.
A Memorial Service for Dave will be held on Saturday December 2, 2023 in the Greenville Baptist Church, 674 Pleasant St.., Rochdale, MA. at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery.
