Franklin C. Drake, 94, of 172 North Brookfield Road died Thursday , May 15 in his home.
His wife Barbara H. (Howe) Drake died in 1999. He leaves several cousins. A brother Howard A. Drake and a sister Frances E. Spollon both pre-deceased him.
Mr. Drake was born in Brookfield son of Francis H. and Lidie (Stowell) Drake. He graduated from David Prouty High School in 1932. He was the former owner of Bay Path Golf Course and Bayberry Bowling also known as Bay Path Bowling Alley in East Brookfield. He and his brother constructed both the golf course and bowling alley and ran them from 1958-1971. He was a very community minded person and very involved with the East Brookfield Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member, a moderator, property overseer, and the sanctuary choir. One of his greatest hobbies was growing gladiolas, as many as 3000 to distribute to five churches, nursing homes and to his many friends. He was a member of the Lashaway Seniors in East Brookfield and a good friend to many.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 19 at 10:00 AM in the East Brookfield Baptist Church, 262 Main Street, East Brookfield. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, East Brookfield. Calling hours are Sunday from 4:00-6:00 PM in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to East Brookfield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 690, East Brookfield, MA 01515.
