Hiram E. Merriam

Hiram E. Merriam, 82, of 400 Groton St., Ayer, formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, April 22 at Apple Valley Center in Ayer after an illness.
He was the husband of Alice A. (McNeaney) Merriam who died in 1997. He leaves a daughter Christine A. Dion and her husband Robert of Nashua, N.H., a grand daughter Amy L. Shepherd of Lunenberg, and a great grand daughter Emma A. Shepherd, a sister Dorothy Rankin of Tenn., and several cousins.
Mr. Merriam was a self employed carpenter and also worked for several area contractors. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Born in Oxford, he was the son of Bertha Merriam and lived in Spencer from 1946-76 and later in Pensacola, Fl. for 20 years before returning to Mass.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 2 in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Gore Cemetery, No. Oxford. Calling hours are Thursday, May 1 from 5 to 7p.m.
