Obituary

J. Lee Lehman, pioneering astrologer, scholar, teacher, and a deeply loved partner, mother, and friend, passed away on March 18, 2026 at 4:47 a.m. EDT, at the age of 72.

Lee devoted her life to the study and practice of astrology, earning international respect for her scholarship, teaching, and commitment to the craft. She played a meaningful role in the revival of traditional astrology and mentored countless students, offering not only knowledge, but perspective and care. Her work left a lasting mark on the astrological community and on all those who sought her guidance.

But to those who knew her personally, Lee was more than her work. She was a constant presence—strong, thoughtful, and deeply committed to the people she loved.

She is survived by her partner of nearly 41 years, Margaret Meister; her daughter, Heather Rose, and Heather’s husband, Scott, and their son, Matthew; her brother, John Lehman, and his wife, Lisa, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and her cousins, John and David Lehman, and their sister, Lenore Knoller.

Lee and Maggie built a life together defined by true partnership—rarely apart, always side by side. It was a rare occasion to speak with only one of them—they were simply a pair.

Heather was proud to be her daughter, a title Lee chose intentionally and lived fully.

Lee will be remembered for her intellect, her independence, her devotion to her craft, and the quiet, but enduring way, she showed up for the people in her life.

Matthew knew them simply as “the grandmas”—and if you asked how they were, the answer was always: together.

A Celebration of Life will be held online Saturday, April 4, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time through Kepler College. Registration details are available here.

In lieu of flowers, plant trees. Plant them everywhere. Plant trees that produce fruit or nuts, or are just beautiful.
