LEICESTER: Jacob "Jake" Menzigian,95, of Leicester, died Monday, Sept. 23rd at home surrounded by his family.
He leaves his wife of 20 years, Mary L. (Stone) Menzigian, his daughter; Dawn Jay Varjabedian and her husband Haroutiune of Leicester, his grandchildren; Nieri H. Simeone and her husband Giovanni and their children Emilina and Alina of Hope, RI, Leena H. Varjabedian and her partner Tyler Boza and his daughter Kaitlynn of Worcester, Nooshig H. Petakov and her husband Aleksandar of Hancock, NH, and Dzovig H. Varjabedian and her fiancé James Lucca, their son Leo Hagop and his daughter Alexandria of Providence, RI, his nephew Rory Beaudette and his family, many cousins and a large extended family. He is predeceased by his sisters; Julia Beaudette and Margaret Menzigian.
Jake was born in the Rochdale section of Leicester, the son of Armenian Genocide survivors Donabed and Heghine (Goshgarian) Menzigian and later served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. Jake was a machine maintenance supervisor for many years at Cesyl Mills in Millbury retiring in 2009 as well as at Rexnord Company in Auburn.
Jake was a member of the Leicester Fire Dept. for 45 years, retiring as its Fire Chief in 1995. He was an active member of the Rochdale VFW Post 7556, the American Legion in Leicester, the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church in Worcester, the Leicester Rod & Gun Club, and a proud 32nd-degree Mason.
Jake loved to spend his time, depending on the season, in his garden, tinkering in his basement, out in his multiple sheds or up at the Leicester Rod & Gun Club. His biggest love was spending time with his family.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church. Calling hours at the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are Friday from 4 to 7p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove St., Worcester, 01605.
