Joanne C. McDonald

SPENCER: Joanne C. (Bergeron) McDonald, 79, of Spencer, died on Friday, August 7, at home.

She was the wife of the late Chester “Chet” E. McDonald, Jr., who died in 2025, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Roger Bergeron and Paula (Zimmermann) Bergeron.

Joanne was co-owner and secretary of McDonald Heating Air Conditioning Plumbing, Inc., the family business she operated with her husband.

Joanne and Chet enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles throughout their lives, traveling across the United States, and were active members of the Worcester Mass Chapter 3811 Harley Owners Group. She also enjoyed seasonal camping with her family.

She leaves her son, Aaron McDonald and his wife, Kell, of Leicester; her grandchildren, Rachel Bont and her husband, Josh, of Worcester and Timothy Johnson of Worcester; her brother, Nelson Bergeron and his wife, Sandra, of Spencer; her sister-in-law, Susan Canane and her husband, Jeffrey, of Charlton; her brother-in-law, Peter McDonald and his wife, Deborah, of Fitchburg; and her dog Brady. She was predeceased by her son, Chester E. McDonald, III; her daughter, Cheryl Johnson; her sisters, Stella and Ingrid; and her brother, Billy Bergeron.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joanne’s name to Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515.
