John H. Verick Jr.

LEICESTER: John H. Verick, Jr., 78, of Cherry Valley, died Tuesday, Aug. 6 in Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

His wife of 41 years A. Ruth (McCaffrey) Verick died in 2003. He leaves two daughters Pamela R. Verick of Alexandria, VA and Christine M. Verick and her fiancé Robert Sutton of Cherry Valley, brother and sister in laws; Joseph and Beverly McCaffrey of Northborough and Kenneth and Carolyn Frost of Auburn and a brother-in-law Lawrence McCaffrey of Tacoma, WA, many nieces, nephews, godchildren and his loving dog. He was pre-deceased by a godson James A. McCaffrey.

Mr. Verick was born in Worcester, son of John H. and Anna M. (Yankauskas) Verick, Sr., and later graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was an Electrical Designer at George J. Meyer Manufacturing Co. in West Boylston and previously at Entwistle Co. in Hudson before retiring. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 4528, Singletary Rod & Gun Club in Oxford, the Rutland Sportsman Club, and the Greendale Retired Men's Club Golf League at Bay Path Golf Course in E.Brookfield.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching all the Boston Sports teams. At one time he was the Massachusetts State Trap Shooting Champion and was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, the Gun Owner Action League and the Amateur Trap Shooting Association of America. He was a former member and past Chairman of the Advisory Board in the Town of Leicester and a former softball coach in Leicester.

The Funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 from MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 9 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.
