LEICESTER/ROCHDALE: Judith A. (Smith) Bergin passed away peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice Home on October 11, 2026 surrounded by her devoted family. She is survived by her loving and supportive husband of 65 years, James Bergin; her children, Kathleen Sebok and her husband William of Rochdale, Cheryl Baker and her husband Kevin of Rochdale, and Kevin Bergin and his wife Kerri of Rochdale; her three beloved granddaughters, Bryanna Vail, Brittany Vail, and Micheala (Brandon) Monette; five great grandchildren and her siblings Douglas Smith of Grafton and Jonathan Smith of Las Vegas.

Judy was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Merton and Anne Smith. She was raised in Holden and Grafton where she graduated from Grafton High School and Leo’s Beauty Institute.

Judy devoted many years to her craft from her beginning days at Barnards department store, Edgewood Nursing Home and the Lutheran Home. Throughout her life Judy was an active member of her community taking on various leadership roles from Camp Fire Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother to being an elected member of the Leicester Recreation Committee. For many years she was elected and became an active member of the Leicester Public Library Trustees. She was also a proud member of the St Aloysius - St Jude Ladies Guild, Leicester Garden Club, Leicester Women’s Club, Mother’s Club, Bayberry Bowling Senior League, and Worcester Country Club Women’s Golf League, among others.

Judy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She and Jim were a constant presence on the sidelines of her granddaughter’s soccer, softball, field hockey games, rugby matches, ski races, and choral performances cheering them on with pride. In her later years, Judy spent much time traveling the world with her children and grandchildren creating lasting memories. She cherished summers at the Cape with all her girls enjoying beach days, mini golf, shopping trips, and the nightly ice cream stops.

Judy was an amazing hostess entertaining friends and family for holidays, Sundays at her home on Stiles Lake, and many a ski weekend at her home at Mount Snow.

Judy also had an incredible group of friends who were part of her life for over 50 years and were an extended part of our family. They remember her fondly as someone bringing them warmth and joy. Her memory will be cherished forever with a smile.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Eddy Pond, DaVita Dialysis Center, Accessible Home Health Care, and Trusted Like Family Home Care for their support with Judy.

Judy’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21st. with a Memorial Mass at 10:00 am in St. Aloysius – St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant Street, Leicester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
