SPENCER: Judith D. (Duclos) Lamoureux, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at her home.
Her husband of 55 years, Richard J. Lamoureux, Sr., died in 2017. She leaves two sons, Richard J. Lamoureux, Jr. and his wife Lisa of East Brookfield, Stephen A. Lamoureux and his partner Catherine Flagg of Worcester; two daughters, Andrée M. Furtado and her husband James of New Braintree, Danielle M. Lamoureux-Kane and her husband Timothy of Brookfield; eight grandchildren: Aimee, Marc, Holly, Alivia, Aaron, Grant, Timothy, and Christopher; a great-granddaughter, Gwenyth; and two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Lamoureux of Spencer, and Phyllis Duclos of New Braintree. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert A. Duclos.
The family is thankful for her longtime caregiver, Stella Owusuaa.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Romeo J. and Doris M. (Page) Duclos. She was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Worcester and received a bachelor's degree in art history from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Class of 1962.
Mrs. Lamoureux will be fondly remembered as the children's librarian for 18 years at Richard Sugden Library in Spencer, where she promoted early literacy and fostered a love of reading. An avid reader herself, she treasured her books and meetings with her book club.
She found beauty in her surroundings – the sky, trees, birds, and flowers. She was most comfortable at home. She enjoyed walking the neighborhood, sitting contentedly with a book or newspaper and a cat on her lap, and hosting gatherings of family and friends. On Halloween night, she dressed as a witch and spooked generations of trick-or-treaters at the original Cherry Street haunted house. In the summer, she and Richard would explore the coastline and art galleries of Maine.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Judy's name to the Friends of Richard Sugden Library, 8 Pleasant St., Spencer, MA 01562.
