LEICESTER: Kathleen A. (Griffin) Canane, 90, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-
Grandmother, and devout Catholic, went home to her Lord on November 28,
2023. She was surrounded by the love of family as she passed.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 63 years, Ronald Canane. Together
they had three children. A son, Jeffrey Canane and his wife, Susan, of Charlton
and daughters, Deirdre Comeau and her husband, James, of Charlton and Erin
Burlingame and her husband, Paul, of Leicester. Kathleen was lovingly known as
"Nana" by her nine grandchildren; Meghan, Kimberly, Rebecca, Jeffrey, Kevin,
Zac, Harry, Marilyn and Josie; as well as by her nine great-grandchildren; Jaelin,
Johnavin, Noah, Jaxon, Jaron, Courtney, Zoey, Landon and Ima. Family meant the
world to her and she cherished every member whole heartedly. She is also
survived by two sisters; Maureen LaRock of Worcester and Judith Gauthier and
her husband, Donald, of Sutton, as well as three longtime friends, Shirley, Iris and
Pat. Besides her parents she is predeceased by a brother, Joseph Griffin.
She was born in Worcester, MA on October 24, 1933 to the late Thomas M. and
Lillian M. (Stewart) Griffin. After graduating from high school she worked in
banking. Following her marriage, she and her husband owned and operated local
businesses including Leicester Package Store. They enjoyed travel, cruises and
their winter home in Tamarac, FL. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and
the Worcester Emblem Club. She loved to read books and, as an avid knitter, she
created and donated many hand knit items to those in need. But, it was the
frequent family gatherings that she truly looked forward to. She will be greatly
missed. The family would like to thank her personal care team, including Susan,
Jaelin and Cindy.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main St. Leicester,
at 11:00 am on Friday, December 8, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made, in her honor, to St. Pius X Church/ St. Joseph's Parish, 759 Main St., Leicester,MA 01524.
A celebration of her life and burial will be at a later date and at the
convenience of the family. The MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester is assisting
the family with arrangements.
