CHARLTON: Madalyn (Fiorillo) Dion, 91, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, in Charlton, Massachusetts, where she resided with her daughter, Judy.
Madalyn was born on February 16, 1935, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Nicholas and Rose (Lautieri) Fiorillo. She graduated from Venerini Academy and went on to devote the early years of her adult life to raising her family. Later, with the same determination and love of learning that characterized so much of her life, Madalyn returned to school, earning her bachelor’s degree from Clark University and her master’s degree from Worcester State College, graduating with honors from both.
Madalyn enjoyed a long and meaningful career in education. She served as Registrar at Becker College and worked for many years at Worcester State College. Her commitment to learning and to her community extended well beyond her professional life. She volunteered as a teacher in the Sturbridge After School Program and founded the Sturbridge Senior Center book club, bringing together two things she valued deeply: education and connection with others.
For decades, Madalyn and her husband, Everett, spent their summers in Kennebunk, Maine, a place that held a special place in her heart. She treasured the friendships she formed there and the company of longtime neighbors and friends. Madalyn loved the ocean and could often be found walking the beach, something she did most days and which brought her great peace and happiness.
Above all, Madalyn was a devoted mother and a woman whose family was at the center of her life. She never missed a school event, a sporting event, or an opportunity to tell her children how proud she was of them. Her love was steady and unconditional, expressed not only through words but through the countless ways she showed up for the people she loved.
Madalyn had a warmth that made people feel cared for. She was the person you could turn to when you needed a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, a little encouragement, or, quite often, a delicious Italian dish prepared with love. Her kindness, strength, generosity, and devotion to family left an enduring impression on those fortunate enough to know her. She was simply, The Best!
She is survived by her children, Judy of Charlton, with whom she made her home, and Wayne, formerly of Framingham. Madalyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Everett; her sister, Louise Stewart; and her brothers, Frank and Dominick Fiorillo.
Madalyn’s life was one of family, education, friendship, and love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
