LEICESTER: Mary F. (Bassan) Nelson, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5th.
Born in Webster, she was the daughter of Earl B. & Teresa (Browne) Bassan. Mary worked as a mental health assistant at Worcester State Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1993. She was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn, and recently a member of the First Congregational Church of Leicester. Mary took great pride in her flower gardens, especially her Mande villa vines. Most of all, her greatest joy was spending time with family. Mary was up for any adventure if her family was involved! Mary’s legacy lives on through the love of her family, the laughs she shared, and the countless happy memories she created with family and friends.
Mary was predeceased by the love of her life, Lawrence Nelson, in 2008. She leaves her son, Frank Nelson and his wife Judith of Plymouth, MA, her two daughters, Christina Nelson and her partner Kenneth Caron of Leicester, MA, Karin Rock and her husband Daniel of Rutland, MA, four grandchildren: Jacob Nelson and his fiancée Juliette Voyerre, Madison Bedard and her husband John, Alexandra Rock and her partner Meaghan Burns, Charles Rock and his wife Lauren, and six great-grandchildren: Charlie, Richie, Danny, Frank, Timothy and Stella. She was predeceased by her brothers: Earl, Donald, and George Bassan, and three sisters; Irene Nelson, Sarah Lorusso, Prudence Festa and a granddaughter, Eve Nelson.
Her family would like to thank Benchmark Senior Living at Shrewsbury Crossing for all of the special love and care Mary received daily. They would also like to thank Knollwood Nursing Center and JHC Hospice for all of the support.
