Paul G. Grouf

d. March 11, 2024

SPENCER; Paul G. Grouf, 72, passed away on Monday, March 11th at UMass Medical Center. Paul is predeceased by his mother, Joy E. Grouf, father, Paul E. Grouf, and brother, Jack S. Grouf. He leaves his beloved wife, Sherry; his daughter, Jaime Day and her husband, Andrew, of Medway; his son, Matthew Grouf and his wife, Kerri, of Hubbardston; and grandsons Rhys, Callum, and Ryker.

Born in Flushing Queens, NY, Paul lived in East Northport, Long Island until he moved at 20 to Ipswich, NH to live with his lifelong friend, Vinny Carwellos. During this time, he played keys/organ in the band, Shimmer, which allowed him to meet his wife of 41 years, Sherry J. (Dubey) Grouf.

Paul and Sherry raised their family in Spencer, MA, having two beautiful children, Jaime and Matthew, who Paul loved dearly. He was a devoted husband and father, always intentional about making fun memories for his kids, whether it was go-karts, motor boats, jet skis, hand-built tree houses, vacations and more. Known as "Bang" in their neighborhood, Paul was infamous for putting on an epic free fireworks display each Independence Day that rivaled the town.

An independent spirit, Paul owned and operated his own trucking business, Paul Grouf Trucking, in addition to proudly owning and operating Worcester County YardWaste for over two decades. He worked hard for his family, and was the ultimate DIYer. Paul was always willing to help those around him and never expected anything in return. His businesses allowed him to put his kids through college, and seeing them graduate were some of his proudest memories.

A lover of deep sea fishing, Paul was always looking to take friends and family out on his boat to fish near Jeffreys Ledge. He loved to fill his free time with vacations in Maine, parties by the lake, and spending time with his family.

Paul was a most extraordinary Papa to his grandsons. He loved reliving the fun and silliness of childhood by being a big kid with them. He always made time for them, loved watching them play baseball, and never visited without a new toy in hand.

Paul fought the good fight until the very end. He wanted to thank all that cared for him including his wife, his loving daughter and son, his MGH cancer team led by Dr. Matthew Strickland, and the wonderful nurses at UMass who provided him with compassionate care in his final days.

A private burial will be held in Spencer for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Paul's memory to the Mass General Cancer Center online at giving.massgeneral.org.

The J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., is assisting the family with arrangements.
