WORCESTER; Richard Ackerman, 74, of Worcester, died Sunday, May 3 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester after a year-long battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Annette S. (Brooks) Ackerman, two sons; Steven R. Ackerman of Worcester, Marc R. Ackerman of Auburn, two daughters; Suzanne M. Germaine and her husband John of Worcester, Sharon A. Ackerman and her husband Rob Quinn of Auburn, four brothers; George Ackerman of Dover, NH, Thomas "Buster" Ackerman and his wife Barbara of San Diego, CA, Donald "Jack" Ackerman of Worcester, Robert Ackerman of Spencer, five sisters; Margaret Brunette of Auburn, Dorothy Mandella and her husband Thomas of Auburn, Joan Ayotte and her husband Gilbert of Oxford, Hilda Brunette of Leicester, Andrea Ackerman of Worcester, five grandchildren; Jared and Gabrielle Germaine, Casey Ackerman, Ryan and Mia Quinn and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of George H. & Hilda M. (Dyson) Ackerman.
Mr. Ackerman was a foreman for 18 years in the facilities department at Worcester State College, retiring in 2002.
Rich's greatest pleasure was his family. His children and grandchildren were his biggest treasures. He enjoyed vacations on the Cape, the family Fall weekend in Vermont, fishing the local ponds and coaching the Red Sox and Patriots from his recliner. He is truly missed.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 7 from 5-7 P.M. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.
