RUTLAND — Richard R. Fontaine, Sr., 88, of Rutland, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 4. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Diana C. (Davis) Fontaine; his son, Richard R. Fontaine, Jr. of Sturbridge; daughters, Catherine M. Gagnon of Sturbridge and Debra A. Bolster and her husband Richard of Spencer; stepdaughter, Susan Root and her husband Howard of Rutland; and stepson, David Bolster of Ruskin, Florida, his sister; Regina Conrad and her husband David and his sister-in-law Millie Fontaine. He also leaves  his beloved grandchildren—Andrea, Amanda, Krista, Danielle, Sarah, Colton, and Jennifer—as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn (Barrett) Fontaine, and his brother, Robert Fontaine.

Dick worked as a wire drawer at the former Worcester Wire Co. for 25 years before retiring. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Raymond J. and Lillian R. (Ridlon) Fontaine. He graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.

An avid outdoorsman, Dick was a longtime member of the Norco Sportsmen's Club in Princeton, where he served as President and sat on the Board of Directors. He found great joy in hunting, fishing, and trap shooting.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer.
