Richard A. Mangsen

MARLBOROUGH/EAST BROOKFIELD: Richard A. Mangsen, 88, died Wednesday, August 26th, at UMass Memorial Health Alliance-Clinton Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 69 years, Joyce A. (Silliman) Mangsen; two sons, Dennis R. Mangsen and his wife, Cynthia, of Ashfield and Harry C. Mangsen and his wife, Diane, of Marlborough; five grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, Carolyn, Christopher and Zachary; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of Arvid G. and Gladys T. (Skogland) Mangsen. He graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce, with whom he shared more than 69 wonderful years.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Richard worked as an engineer at Data General in Westborough and previously at Digital Equipment. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, A.F. & A.M., and a Shriner.

Richard and Joyce retired to Ormond Beach, Florida, in 1995, where they enjoyed more than 30 wonderful years together, surrounded by a wide circle of cherished friends.

Dick enjoyed square dancing, camping, softball, and traveling all over the U.S. and beyond! Some of his and Joyce’s favorite trips were to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 4th, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, East Brookfield, followed by a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's.
