Robert A. Parker, Jr., 80, of 770 Salisbury St., formerly of
Spencer and former Spencer Police Chief, died Saturday, Nov. 26 at
University Commons in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Margaret A. (Fortune) Price Parker, his
daughter Jean and her husband Richard Abrams of Westborough and their two
children Keith Abrams of SanFrancisco, Ca., and Julie Melia of New York,
N.Y., his daughter Susan Larson and her companion Lee Clifford of Mashpee
and her daughter Alycia Larson and a great grand daughter Daycia Frye Larson
of So.Yarmouth, his former wife Gloria (Forgit) Parker and a brother Donald
Parker of Spencer, nieces and nephews. His step children Ellen and her
husband Michael Chauvin of Spencer, Cathleen and her husband Paul Kelly of
Tuscon, Az., Kevin Price and his wife Suzanne of Westfield, Stephen Price
and his wife Darlene of Worcester, Mary Anne Price of Spencer and many step
grand and great grand children. He is predeceased by a step son Donald John
Price of Spencer.
Chief Parker graduated from David Prouty High School in 1943 as Class
President. He then enlisted before graduation in the Navy 5 training program
for pilots and was assigned to primary pre-flight training at Bunker Hill
Air Base, Bunker Hill, Ind., Naval Flight Training in Pensacola, Fl., and
attended Williams College, Colgate Univ., and the Univ. of No.Carolina at
Chapel Hill. He subsequently was stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, N.Y.C.
and then was discharged in 1945. He graduated from the Spartan School of
Aeronautics, Tulsa, Ok as an aircraft and engine mechanic and was employed
by Marrone Aircraft in Marlboro, Ma., and at a later date, Reed & Prince
Mfg., and B.J. Welding.
In 1958 he joined the Spencer Police Dept. as a part time patrolman and
later became Chief in 1968. He retired from the Police Dept. in 1990.
He was a past President of the Western Worcester Police Chiefs Assoc.,
former board member of the Spencer Rescue Squad and a member of the
Gaudette-Kirk Post 138 American Legion in Spencer.
Born in Spencer he was the son of Robert A. Parker, Sr. and Florence (Bell)
Parker and lived in Spencer most of his life.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. in the First
Congregational Church of Spencer, 205 Main St., Spencer. Burial will follow
with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. Calling hours at the
J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer are Tuesday, Nov.
29 from 5 to 8p.m. At the family's request, flowers are to be omitted and
contributions are preferred in Robert's memory to either the Spencer Rescue
Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer or Women's Fellowship c/o 1st. Congregational
Church, P.O. Box 187, Spencer,Ma. 01562.
