LEICESTER: Robert I. Woodruff, 78, of Leicester, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 12th. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Diane M. (Cartier) Woodruff, in 2022. He leaves his sons, Christopher A. Woodruff and his wife Eloise of Suffolk, VA, Robert Woodruff and his wife Diane of Morris, CT, and Ronald Woodruff and his wife Holly of N. Granby, CT; grandchildren, Olivia Woodruff, Megan O'Brien and her husband William, Steven Woodruff, Melissa Keyser and her husband Erik, Adam and Josh Woodruff.
Bob was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Irving R. and Anna E. (Behrens) Woodruff and later graduated from Granby High School. He then proudly served his country with the US Navy including time aboard the USS Tidewater during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an oil burner technician for most of his career, working for several companies in Central Massachusetts. Bob retired as a Fleet Mechanic for CK Smith Superior in Worcester in 2018. He was a 31-year member of the Leicester Fire Dept (Rochdale Co. 3), and previously served on the Northbridge Fire Dept. and Lost Acres Fire Dept. (CT). There wasn't an Engine he couldn't drive or operate and he thoroughly enjoyed training the manpower. He was a great neighbor and friend, always lending a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. He was a member of the Greenville Baptist Church.
A Memorial Service for both Bob & Diane will be held on Wednesday, July 26th. at 11 a.m. in the Greenville Baptist Church, 684 Pleasant St., Rochdale.
Burial at Greenville Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors will be immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leicester Fire Dept. Relief Fund, 2 Paxton St., Leicester, MA 01524.
