Rockwood L. "Rocky" Hyland Sr.

LEICESTER; Rockwood L. "Rocky" Hyland, Sr., 74, of 67 Whittemore St., died Tuesday, May 12 at his home after a short battle with lung cancer.
He leaves his wife of 53 years Marilyn D. (Wastila) Hyland, two sons; Rockwood L. Hyland, Jr and his wife Ann of Leicester, James C. Hyland and his wife Maureen of Worcester, a brother, Daniel Hyland of Leicester, 3 grandsons and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers; William and Robert Hyland and two sisters; Christina (Hyland) Sheehan and Octavia A. Hyland.
Born in Leicester, he was the son of William & Anna E. (Narbut) Hyland.
Mr. Hyland was a dairy farmer all his life and was the owner/operator of Hyland Dairy Farms until 1968 and was the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at Becker College in Leicester from 1968-1992 until his retirement. He was a graduate of Leicester High School, Class of 1954. He was a Leicester Little League Coach/Manager and a member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club and the Leicester Conservation Commission.
Rocky was a very quiet, unassuming man whose greatest joy came from his family, the happiness he found in his home, in his surroundings, in his love of nature and animals, and his love of the land... Rocky possessed much wisdom and showed respect for and to everyone. He was a caring, wonderful listener and was always available to his family and friends whenever they needed advice or help. His special place in our lives will remain in a special place in our hearts.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, burial of ashes will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, Development Office, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA. 01608 or to the Becker College Veterinary Program, c/o Development Office, 61 Sever St., Worcester, MA. 01609.
