LEICESTER: Ronald L. Barrus, Jr., 61, died Saturday, February 17 in his home surrounded by his family.He leaves his wife, Olga O. (Orloff) Barrus, a daughter, Laura D. Cortes and her husband Robert of Leicester, a son, Benjamin S. Barrus, his father, Ronald L. Barrus, Sr. and his wife Elaine of Holden, a sister, Nancy L. Rheault and her husband Raymond of Oxford, two granddaughters, Makenzie A. Cortes and Mila Q. Cortes, both of Leicester, nieces and nephews; Courtney, Christopher, Joseph, Abbey, and their families. He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher L. Barrus in 1966 and his mother Lorraine G. (Lemay) Barrus in 1977. Born in Worcester, he graduated from Leicester High School and later served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Korea, Kansas, Louisiana and New York during the Gulf War. He worked as a mechanic for American Medical Response in Worcester and most recently in the custodial dept. at the College of the Holy Cross from January 2004 to December of 2023 prior to retirement, due to illness. He was a member of the Rochdale VFW, Post 7556. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. in Greenville Baptist Church, 684 Pleasant St., Rochdale. The family will receive guests from 10:15 am until the beginning of the service at the church. There are no calling hours. The MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester is in charge of arrangements for the family.
