Shirley D. Doane

LEICESTER: Shirley D.(Desautels) "Grossmutta" Doane, 93, of Rochdale, died Sunday, Oct. 29th at her home surrounded by her family, after a short battle with cancer. She was the wife of Karl W. Doane Jr. who died in 1987. She leaves her sons; Dennis K. Doane and his wife Diane of Snellville, GA, Kenneth L. Doane of No.Grosvenordale, CT., and Peter W. Doane and his wife Karla of Leicester, her daughters; Robbin L. Seymour of Spencer, Heidi A. Gambaccini and her husband Robert of Oxford and her daughter in law Pamela Doane of Spencer.  Her brother Kenneth G. Desautels and his wife Nancy of Rutland, and her sister; Beverly J. Barrus of Pensacola, FL. She leaves 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son; Karl W. Doane, III in 2017, son in law Stephen Seymour in 2014, brother; Donald Desautels, and sisters; Anita L. Murphy, Nancy J. Peters, and Norma MacDougal. Shirley graduated as a registered nurse from Worcester City Hospital in 1951. She was a Nurse for 45 years at various Worcester hospitals, retiring in 1995. She also was a nurse for the former Leicester Samaritan Association and Leicester District Nurses.  She enjoyed family, gardening, crocheting, reading and traveling. She volunteered at the Leicester Senior Center, and received a Gold Key from the Massachusetts House of Representatives for Volunteer of the Year in 2007. She did crocheting for local PIP Shelters and area hospitals. She also volunteered as an overseas missionary for her church. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Lionel and Gertrude (Shedd) Desautels. The family would like to thank the Notre Dame Hospice nursing staff. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Friday, Nov. 3rd. at 10 a.m. in the Worcester Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2 Airport Dr., Worcester. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery, Rochdale. Calling hours at the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are Thursday, Nov. 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leicester Senior Center, 40 Winslow Ave., Leicester, MA 01524
