NO.BROOKFIELD: Virginia M. (Poland) Grenier, 83, of No. Brookfield, died Thursday, Oct. 10th after a brief illness.
She was the beloved wife of Richard J. Grenier for 52 wonderful years until his passing in 2014. She leaves her sons; Michael R. Grenier and his wife Judith of Palm Desert, Calif., and Brian J. Grenier and his wife Jennifer of Fresno, Calif., her daughter; Suzette A. Howland and her husband Robert of New Braintree, MA., her two sisters; Joan Cormey and her husband Wesley of NJ, and Sandra Burnham (wife of William) of Charlton, her grandchildren; Jamison and Kayli Howland, Edward and Woodrow Yeakel, nieces and nephews.
Ginny, as she was affectionately known by all, was born in Worcester, the daughter of Charles A. and Marguerite D. (Cook) Poland. Aside from a few years away during Richard's military service, the Lake Lashaway area has been her home, with early years spent on the E. Brookfield side of the lake and the final years of her life on the N. Brookfield side. She graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer, Class of 1959, where she and Richard were high school sweethearts.
In addition to many years as a loving fulltime Mom, Ginny was the Executive Assistant to the President of Clark University in Worcester for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. She was a longtime active member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in No. Brookfield, a 3rd generation family member strongly supporting our beautiful community church. She was a former trustee of the David Prouty Memorial Scholarship Fund, organizer of the North Brookfield Youth Group, and a cherished member of the Spencer Garden Club.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, actively involved in their daily lives while cheering them at sporting events and school functions. Her favorite activities included golf, sewing, book club, and nightly crossword puzzles, but all of these were trumped by her passion for maintaining a beautifully manicured yard filled with all kinds of flowers in bloom year-round. Everyone walking by would stop and admire her storybook setting. Vacationing with her husband in Vero Beach Fla. during winter months filled her retirement years with sun and warmth alongside many New England and Canadian friends.
Virginia's funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 25th at 11 a.m. in Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, 133 No. Main St., No. Brookfield (friends and relatives are asked to go directly to the church). The service will be followed by a graveside ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery, E.Brookfield then a reception at Christ Memorial.
